‘New Moon’ director named

My lovely friend has just informed me that a director for the ‘Twilight’ sequel, ‘New Moon’ has been announced.

On author Stephenie Meyer’s blog she posted that Chris Weitz, of American Pie, About a Boy, and The Golden Compass director of the newly lucrative franchise.

Although, American Pie plays more to the horny teenage boy crowd, About a Boy is a truly sweet movie that captures real human emotions, especially feeling lost, which I think Bella very much is in New Moon. Weitz is also a writer, which I think could lend itself well to ‘New Moon’. Now as much as I love ‘Twilight’, there is admittedly some clunky dialouge

Also, on the blog is enclosed a letter from Chris, his answer to all the Catherine Hardwicke controversy and gender issues. He writes:

“To those who doubt as a male director I can capture Bella’s experience , I can only say that emotion is universal and that my work has often involved working with some of the most talented actresses in the the world.

For the rest, the proof will have to be in the pudding. But I promise to remain responsive to your hopes and fears.

I for one am impressed with the director’s letter. He does not have to take the time to write an open letter to Twilight fans about his state of mind and intentions.

So, my Twihards, put your hearts at ease, I think this is a good next step for the franchise. I can’t wait to see what he comes up with.
